Camp Hansen Festival challenges weather

Although August seems to be the culmination of all that is hot and sticky on Okinawa, the Hansen Festival is a beacon of light glimmering as summer fun continues on Okinawa.

Hansen Festival has everything required for summer fun. The line-up for fun and entertainment is quite extensive, so put on your party pants and join in for some fun on Saturday, August 18th and Sunday, August 19th from 2 p.m. ~ 10 p.m. The food’s fresh off the grill and a snow cone melts in your hand, and the cultural spread is sure to please the pickiest eaters. Of course, no festival would be complete without a Kiddie Land to delight the children, as well as amusement rides and game booths that adults can enjoy as well. Military buffs will enjoy our static displays of military tactical vehicles and aircraft.

The entertainment schedule is nothing to scoff at. Headlining Hansen Festival will be members of the Idols World Tour. These talented individuals, will perform on both days from 7 – 9 p.m. Saturday’s entertainment will also include an Eisa performance by Chijunshu Wakatida and a variety band show by Aki & Buzz Light. On Sunday MCCS will hold its annual hot dog eating contest at 3:30 p.m., followed by the freestyle dance group Jam Plant and the Ultimate Game Show. Stay informed on entertainment updates by following MCCS on facebook.com/mccsokinawa.entertainment.

This year’s Hansen Festival is sponsored in part by American Foreign Services Protective Association, BodyBuilding.com, SoftBank Telecomm and Miller. MCCS encourages responsible drinking. Don’t drink and drive. Daiko taxi service will be available.

The festival is free and open to local nationals. Free shuttle buses will provide transportation to and from designated parking lots on Camp Hansen. No pets, outside alcohol, bottles or coolers allowed.
