Camp Kinser to have holiday parade, tree lighting ceremony

Camp Kinser will conduct a Holiday Parade and Tree Lighting Ceremony to celebrate the upcoming holiday season near the Camp Kinser Commissary at 5 p.m. Dec. 1.

The parade will march from Camp Kinser Gate 4 to the Commissary. Participants in the parade will include various units with decorated floats, which will be judged and ranked accordingly.

The tree lighting ceremony will commence after the parade at approximately 6:15 p.m. when a family who recently had a service member return from deployment will light the tree. Guests in attendance of the tree lighting ceremony includes Col. John E. Kasperski, Commanding Officer of Camp Kinser and Urasoe City Mayor Mitsuo Gima.

Entertainment during the event includes a joint performance of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force Band and the III MEF Band. A student choir from Camp Kinser Elementary School will sing songs to music produced by the Miyagi Elementary School.

In case of bad weather the event will be rescheduled for Dec. 2, which would take place at 5 p.m. on Camp Kinser. If bad weather does occur a decision to reschedule will be made by 2 p.m. on Dec 1.
