Tate + Yoko Weaving Studio shows techniques

The exhibition features textiles and practical textile products all created and designed by Textite Studio Tate + Yoko.

A weaving studio established by four graduates of the Okinawa University of Arts is conducting its first Weaving Studio Tate + Yoko Exhibition at the Nishimui Bijutsu art gallery.

Admission is free to the exhibition, which runs through December 30th.  The four artisans graduated from university in 2010 and began fine tuning their craftsmanship by weaving.  Individuality is common, as the four take advantage of the varied features of Okinawa textiles.

The exhibition is more than simply an exhibition; it’s also a sale of traditional textile products of Okinawa.  The four have been creating products that suit the lifestyle of modern times.  Nishimui Bijutsu hosts the exhibition to focus on artists and craftsmen of Okinawa Prefecture, supporting traditional culture and customs.

The venue of the exhibition is Art Gallery Nishimui Bijutsu in Kochinda.

To get to Nishimui Bijutsu take Okinawa Expressway south towards Naha Airport. Get off at Kochinda Minami (South) interchange and turn left onto Tsukayama bypass (route 507). Drive towards Kochinda where you turn right on road number 77, and continue another 600 meters until you pass Cosmo gasoline stand on the right. The gallery is right after the gas stand on the right side of the road.
