Churashima Okinawa Century Run 2013 still accepting riders
One of Okinawa’s top cycling race series, the Churashima Okinawa Century Run 2013, is accepting registrations for the January 20th event for another three weeks.
The four races in the Century Run are called the Beautiful Island Okinawa Century Bicycle Tour 2013, riding on routes along the blue ocean, through the mountains where Japan’s first cherry blossoms are coming out, and across a main bridge overlooking the East China Sea.
Registration runs through December 25th on the website at http://cocr.jp/english/, and a discount is being offered for riders registering at the Kadena Outdoor Recreation Office.
The premier race is the 160 kilometer Century Course, which takes riders through the Kouri Bridge on the Pacific side of the island, including a mini-hill climb time trial in the middle of the course. Registration is ¥11,500 for the time trials course or ¥9,500 for the regular course. The 100km Kouri Island and Sakura Course is ¥8,500, and the 60km Sweets Course across the flatlands, ideal for beginning riders, is ¥7,000. The Kouri course is recommended for a wide range of cyclists, including advanced riders who want to run while
enjoying the scenery.
The Century Course winds its way across northern and central Okinawa, all the way down to Hamahiga Island and back.
