Ginowan hosting set of wheelchair races
The 24th Ginowan Wheelchair Marathon is about to begin, with handicapped competitors making ready for three races that will run Sunday, rain or shine.
Kankai Gate at Ginowan Seaside Park is the starting and finishing point for the three races; a 21.0975km Half Marathon, a 5km Marathon and a 1.5km Marathon. Opening ceremonies Sunday are at 9 a.m., with the races beginning at 10 a.m. under supervision of the Ginowan
Wheelchair Marathon Executive Committee. Organizers say the plan is promotion of sports for disabled persons in a society that provides and encourages courage.
The Wheelchair Marathon is inviting people from both within and outside Okinawa Prefecture, encouraging a deeper understanding of, and cooperation with, disabled persons. The Half Marathon will run between Ginowan City and Chatan Town, while the two shorter marathons will run within the confines of Ginowan City.
