Kitone Market serves shopping, entertainment on Saturday
More than 100 stores from across Okinawa are joining forces Saturday in Yomitan Village’s Zanpa Cape for a nine-hour Kitone-Ichi, a market.
The combination open air stores sale and flea market at Zanpa Cape will ring everything from food and drinks to a variety of processed and handmade goods and accessories, and also massage, relaxation and musical live show.
Kitone-ichi, Ichi meaning market, has been held every spring, summer and autumn since the winter of 2006, with the market’s origin was the Yomitan Nature School. It began small, and has grown steadily the past half-dozen years, with one of the organizers attributing growth to “great network and communication.”
A Hawaiian guitar program includes a Poi fire dance, and there will be Okinawan Samba,
African traditional dance by Saran Conde, complete with percussion by djembe drums.
The shoppers delight includes bags, accessories, clothes and cloth, vessels, leather goods, hats, tee shirts and miscellaneous goods. Relaxation and Aroma Therapy massages will be available. Foods run the gamut from sweets to organic drinks, coffee, bagels, curry and hamburgers, regional pasta, smoothies, potato fries and vegan foods and beverages.
