Flower & Food Festival in Onoyama Feb. 2nd & 3rd
It’s big, it’s beautiful and it fills Onoyama Comprehensive Athletic Park in Naha City for a free two-day run February 2nd and 3rd.
The Okinawa Flower & Food Festival, which got its start on the theme of local supply and consumption of Okinawa-grown fresh agriculture and forestry marine products, including flowers, vegetables and livestock, is now a mainstay event. Everything in the festival is grown or produced in Okinawa, and features everything from processed foods to flowers and fresh produce. It’s all on display in the large hall, introducing goods to tourists through exhibitions, competitive shows and contests, food samples and even spots sales.
Organizers of the Okinawa Flower & Food Festival are even setting up experience corners and exhibition corners touching on the flowers of Okinawa, as well as foods. Awards will be presented at the competitive show, recognizing the biggest and best of flowers and vegetables. There will be dishes created using the different foods, and sales of many fruits and vegetables will be offered.
At the samples corner, visitors can taste the best of factory production of vegetables and vegetable sweets, while picking up recipes to experiment with later. The annual festival is held each February. This year’s festival will showcase flowers, fruits, vegetables, pork products, seafood, sugarcane and many more items.
The Okinawa Flower & Food Festival is so big, and so important, Marine Corps Community Services is arranging a tour on Sunday, February 3rd. The visit to the annual Farmers Market costs $18 for adults and $14 for kids 3~11. Toddlers two and under are $5.00. Make reservations with MCCS Tours & Travel.
