Ogimi Village celebrates Camellia Festival with show, tours, music

Working a theme of nature and the camellia, Ogimi Village is this weekend celebrating the 3rd Ogimi Camellia Festival.

“The woods walk tour of limestone”, which provides a glimpse of nature in  the village, and on the nearby mountain, includes a four kilometer walk on a mountain trail.  The special walking tour costs ¥1,500 and reservations can be made at (098) 044-3007, the Ogimi Village Office.

Visitors only wanting to enjoy the Camellia Festival Saturday and Sunday can do so for a suggested donation of ¥200.  The Ogimi Hakinzo Observatory at 75 Ohganeku, Ogimi Village, has a hall in which there will be sales of potted plants, a panel, a green help desk, you camellia trees, and specialty item sales.  The festival is open 10 a.m. ~ 5 p.m.

A special program starts at 2 p.m. Saturday, with a Mr. Toyota Magic

A four-kilometer nature walk is one of Ogimi attractions.

Show at 2:30 p.m., followed by a lecture on magic.  On Sunday, Aimoko Live begins at 3:30 p.m.  Aimoko is the married musical duo who are also farmers in Ogimi Village.  The pair host radio shows in Okinawa, including Aimoko’s Musical Farm on Radio Okinawa every Saturday 10 a.m. ~ 1 p.m.

The festival in the Yambaru hills, north of Nago, includes foods and beverages stalls, including one serving wild boar meat.
