Artisan’s lacquer ware exhibition open through April 14th

Tableware and vases are to be cherished.

An Okinawa lacquer ware craftsman who’s studied in Europe and Japan is now showing his works at the Moriki Iju Lacquer ware Exhibition in Kochinda.

Moriki Iju specializes in tree and lacquer ware crafts.  His exhibition runs daily except Tuesdays, 11 a.m. ~ 5 p.m., at the Nishimui Nishimori Art at 1013-9 Kochinda, Yaese, Shimashiri County.  Admission is free.

artwork by having won a prize for the Suntory Museum of Art Grand-Prix.  In the past, he’s had his works on exhibition in Milan, Italy and Paris, France.  Many works, such as tableware and vases, were considered from the viewpoint of everyday life, designed to be exhibited and viewed.  The admiration people can feel from the lacquer ware has made this Okinawa art to be cherished.

Getting to Nishimui Gallery is easy.  Driving, take the Okinawa Expressway south toward Naha Airport.  Get off at Kochinda Minami (South) interchange and turn left onto the Tsukayama bypass, Route 507.  Continue driving toward Kochinda to Route 77, then turn right.  Continue another 600 meters, passing a Cosmo gasoline station on the right.  The gallery is on the right follow the gas stand, on the right side of the road.
