The event will be held at Okinawa Museum & Art museum outdoor exhibition area.

Marie Antoinette, the fiery last queen of France whose passions for stirring unrest was ultimately her downfall in 1793, is being recognized for her love all things sweet and beautiful at a one-day café event Sunday at the Okinawa Prefectural Museum & Art Museum.

The occasion for the “Café & Marche aux puces” is related to the Marie Antoinette Exhibition currently going on inside the Okinawa Prefectural Museum & Art Museum.  Sunday’s Café & Marche runs 11 a.m. ~ 5 p.m. in the Outdoor exhibition space at the museum.  It will be moved indoors to the corridor near the entrance in the event of rain.  Admission is free.

Marie Antoinette was hooked on both sweets and beautiful things, concerns also common to modern-day women.  Her concerns for the French people were enough to lead her to stirring the French Revolution, along with her husband King Louis XVI, and her actions angered the Revolutionary Council to the point it ordered the King beheaded.  Nine months later, it was Marie Antoinette’s turn to be beheaded in 1793.

Café & Marche runs a single day, and feature sweets and the chance to view miscellaneous antique goods.  There will also be live cello and jazz guitar music being performed.  Visitors can relax in the open-air café, or look for favorite goods to buy.
