Dragon Boat Races kick off White Beach Festival
Sunday’s a busy day for White Beach, as the White Beach Spring Festival puts the dragon boats in the water to begin a day of festivities.
The day-long festival begins at 11 a.m. with Dragon Boat races, as well as 3-on-3 Basketball
and a Mexican Dance featuring Ballet Folklorico Mexicano de Okinawa. In the afternoon, Navy Morale, Welfare and Recretion presents the Variety Rock/Folk Band Double D at 2 p.m. Sorato the clown will be at Kiddieland doing balloon art from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., and Hawaiian Dance featuring Halau Hui Nohona Aloha performs at 3:30. The festival moves to high gear at 6 p.m. for a performance by R & B Band Nu Reality.
The White Beach Spring Festival is free, and is open to SOFA-status personnel and families, and to the Okinawan community. All guest are subject to identification checks upon entering White Beach; visitors are asked to bring photo identification, such as a license or passport.
Alcoholic beverages of all types are prohibited, as are ice chests or beverage coolers, pets, skateboards and heeleys. Static displays will be available to visitors throughout the day. The festival concludes at 8 p.m.
