Artifacts, both old and new, are on display at the 65th Okiten Exhibition now open through Sunday.

“Okiten” sponsored by Okinawa Times is one of the biggest comprehensive fine-arts exhibitions in Okinawa prefecture. It is open from the middle of March every year in the Urasoe civic gymnasium, and in order to appreciate the arts in Okinawa Prefecture, many people visit every year.

This is the 65^th Okiten exhibition.  Various prizes, including an Associate member prize, Okiten prize, and Encouragement prize, are selected from the works applied for in seven sections and 11 technical genres such as pictures, print, sculpture, design, calligraphy, photography and industrial art.   The industrial arts are ceramic art, lacquer art, dyeing, textiles, and glass. A total of 1,132 items were submitted and are on display this year.

Many people visit Okiten exhibition every year.

In the outdoor event site, a ceramic art classroom, in which visitors can join, will be also held between 14:00 and 16:00 on Saturday, April 6. Participants can make Shisa masks through this classroom.  Okiten is taking place at the Urasoe Civil Athletic Gymnasium, and runs daily through Sunday, April 7^th, from 10 a.m. ~ 6 p.m.  Last entry is at 5:30 p.m.

Advance admission is ¥500 for adults and ¥400 for elementary, junior high school and high school students.   At the door there’s an additional ¥100 on the entry price.  Kids under elementary school age enter free.
