Two new Okinawa City bus lines have been started

Okinawa City has started a new project of a bus line running a circular route around between main facilities of Okinawa City from Apr. 1. The city’s stated purpose of the project is to make it easy for people to move around downtown of Okinawa City, and improve the convenience for residents.

The new bus line runs two routes, one is called “Koza Route” that starts from the Okinawa City Hall, running through Gintengai Mall and Goya areas. The other is called “Goya Route” that also starts at the Okinawa City Hall and runs to the Okinawa Zoo Park and Koza Athletic park area.

The service on both lines start at 9 a.m. from the city hall, and there are a total of 14 service runs on the Koza Route, and 13 on Goya Route each day. A ride on both lines costs ¥100, but kids under 6 are free. Handicapped passengers also ride for free when showing a certificate.

In the beginning, all passengers ride for free for a trial period, but the fares will be charged from sometime in May.
