Eisa comes alive with Chura Festival

Various local Itoman youth groups perform the weekend Eisa at the resort.

The sights and sounds of Eisa are in the air starting tomorrow evening, and running every Friday and Saturday through June at the entrance to the Southern Beach Hotel & Resort Okinawa. The free Eisa Chura Festival

Shishi-mai is also known as a lion dance.

performances are 8 p.m. ~ 9 p.m. every Friday and Saturday at the Itoman City hotel and resort, located in the Nishizaki district of the city.

On Fridays, Eisa organizations have selected young members of each organization to performances that include eisa, lion dance (shishi-mai), Ryukyu dance, and Okinawan martial arts.  The half-hour opening provides brave dancing and a dynamic Eisa dance performance which is full of feeling and lively motion. The second half-hour, 8:30 ~ 9 p.m., is a street performance where performers demonstrate skills including juggling, magic, balloon shows and dance.  The performances take place in the first floor lobby of the Southern Beach Hotel and Resort.
