Man dies in fire at Mihara

Naha Fire Department had a call about smoke rising from a three-story concrete building in the Mihara district of Naha City at 6 a.m., May 1. Firefighters rushed to the scene, and had the fire extinguished in about an hour, but the second and third floors were destroyed.

According to Naha police, the body of 48-year-old Ayumu Seto who had lived on the 3rd floor of the building was found in his apartment burned to death. Seto’s 88-year-old mother suffered smoke inhalation and burns in her throat. She was taken to a hospital, but her injuries are not life threatening.

Acording to the Naha Fire Department the fire seems to have broken out around the second floor kitchen. The building is located about 200 meters from Himeyuri Street in Naha in an area with many private houses. The first floor of the building housed a restaurant, and the residence on the second and third floor was used by the Seto Family.
