A Taiwan-born chemist who won the 1986 Nobel Prize for Chemistry will be featured lecturer Saturday morning at Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology.

Dr. Yan Tseh Lee, who won the Nobel Prize together with Hungarian-Canadian John C. Polanyi and American Dudley R. Herschbach “for their contributions to the dynamics of chemical elementary processes,” has worked in Physical Chemistry related to the use of advanced chemical kinetics techniques to investigate and manipulate the behavior of chemical reactions for relative large molecules using crossed molecular beams.

From 1994 ~ 1996, he served as President of the Academia Sinica of Taiwan, and in 2011 was elected head of the International Council for Science.  Dr. Lee is a member of the OIST Board of Governors, and holds a PhD with Department of Chemistry at the university of California in Berkeley.  He is a Distinguished Research Fellow at the Institute of Atomic and Molecular Sciences, Academia Sinica, and is University Professor Emeritus at the University of California.

Saturday’s lecture begins at 10 a.m. in the OIST Auditorium on the main campus in Onna Village.  The lecture will be in English, and the audience is invited to participate and interact with Dr. Lee during the presentation.
