Robbery at precious metal trading shop in Shintoshin

A man wearing a face mask robbed a shop that trades in used jewelry and precious metals in Naha’s Shintoshin area, Tuesday afternoon.

According to Naha Police, the man approached from behind a female staff member of the shop, who was in the back of the shop at the time, grabbed her by the neck, demanding “Hand over your money!” The clerk the handed over ¥100,000 in cast to the man who subsequently ran away. The female staff member was not injured. Police also say that it does not look like the robber had any weapon.

Naha Police employed several patrols to the area, but they have so far not been successful in apprehending the robber. According to the police, the robber seems to be in his 30’s to 40’s and slightly chubby in appearance. He was dressed in white shirt and jeans, and wore a blue baseball cap and a surgical mask. They are continuing the investigation, and are asking anyone who might have seen a suspicious person in the area at the time to contact the police.
