An exhibition of restored cultural assets of the Ryukyus is going on daily at the Shuri Castle Park South Hall through July 2. The exhibition concentrates on assets from the period from the end of the Ryukyu Kingdom to WWII.

Shuri Castle Park is about to embark on a new exhibition showcasing restoration activities to protect cultural assets related to the Ryukyu Kingdom’s lost history.

The new exhibition, dubbed Ryukyu Treasure Exhibition Part 2, opens tomorrow and runs through July 2^nd.  The activities in the Special Exhibition Room on the second floor of Shuri Castle Park’s South Hall, run daily 8:30 a.m. ~ 8 p.m.  Admission is ¥800 for adults, ¥600 for high school students, and ¥300 for all students and children junior high school age or younger.

This exhibition is the second part of an exhibition currently performed from April in Shuri Castle Park. Shuri Castle Park has tackled the restoration work to restore cultural assets related to Ryukyu Kingdom’s lost history from the collapse of the Ryukyu Kingdom to the Battle of Okinawa. The cultural assets have flowed into the exhibition from contributors both within Okinawa and outside the prefecture.

At this exhibition, visitors can first take a look at restoration techniques, and the work, which craftsmen have performed to preserve and repair the items after lost cultural assets were collected from various sources.  There will also be descriptive introductions of the new knowledge discovered by investigations conducted during the restoration manufacture or repairs period. The work group handling this restoration learned of the high level of capabilities of the technical craftsmen of its Ryukyu Kingdom days, and say visitors will find this a most interesting exhibition.

There are many ways to reach Shuri Castle Park.  By Car or Taxi: If you’re arriving by car or taxi, please ask the attendant if there is space available in the Suimuikan underground car park. By Monorail: Take the monorail to Shuri Station, then take the Bus 8 and get off at the “Shurijo-mae” bus stop.

The Monorail Fare from Naha Airport to Shurijo Station is ¥320 for adults and ¥160 for children.

There is underground parking on the B1 and B2 floors of the Suimuikan. If the car park is full, there are other private parking spaces nearby (charges will apply). Suimuikan Parking Charges are for large passenger vehicles ¥940 and ¥310 for small passenger vehicles. The parking hours are 8 a.m. ~ 8 p.m. through June, and 8 a.m. ~ 9 p.m. July through September.
