Seven boys nabbed for years of car break-ins
Okinawa Prefecture Police and Okinawa City Police have arrested four boys, and sent papers to prosecutors on three more on suspicion of a series of car break-ins that took place over several years starting from 2009.
Investigators say that the seven boys are suspected on breaking into cars on parking lots at various locations throughout Okinawa City in at least 76 cases. Most of the victims were American owned Y-plate cars, and the total reported accumulated financial damages are in excess of ¥3,600,000.
The boys told investigators that they discovered that many Y-plate car owners don’t lock their cars, and so it’s easy to get in, and steal belongings from them. They said that they wanted to get money for playing.
