Japanese SDF Summer Festival tomorrow on Naha Air Base

Much of the JSDF Summer Festival centers around an outdoor stage erected on Naha Air Base.

Japanese Air Self Defense Forces are pulling out all the stops tomorrow for its annual Naha Summer Festival.

The festivities will take place from 5:20 p.m. ~ 9 p.m. at the Naha Air Base, adjacent to Naha Airport.  Admission is free.  The base is about a five-minute walk from Akamine station of Yui rail. There is no parking lot, so visitors are encouraged to please use Yui rail or bus to access.

Several Eisa groups perform at the festival.

Performers tomorrow are Kiiyama Shoten, El Yonashiro, Lequio Two Stars, and Japanese Self-Defense Forces personnel groups.  The customary “summer festa” features shops and stalls, and it will also present a Japanese Bon festival dance event.

This time, Kiiyama Shoten from Ishigaki Island will appear as the main guest. In addition to this, El Yonashiro, a female vocalist, also will attach a flower to the stage. The music is well beyond a single genre, including the Japanese Bon festival dance music performance by Air Self Defense Force Naha, Naval Base, the Eisa by land, sea and air combined teams, the women’s group, and the joint JSDF land, sea and air forces members, will color the night.

The Bon festival dance is open to audience participation. Open stalls will be providing various kinds of foods and various attractions as well. All visitors will experience the Japanese traditional Bon festival.
