Halestorm puts pizzaz to weekend Hansen Festival

One of the biggest attractions of base festivals are exhibitions of military hardware; everyting from machine guns and howitzers to aircraft interests local visitors, and there is no lack of willing experts happy to explain. (MCCS photo)

Halestorm is scheduled to rock audience at Hansen Festival starting 8 p.m. on Saturday.

The Grammy award-winning band Halestorm takes the center stage this weekend for the annual Hansen Festival.

Joining Halestorm for the Saturday and Sunday festival are five other bands brought to Camp Hansen by Marine Corps Community Services.  Halestorm will perform on Saturday at 8 p.m. and promises to deliver a rocking performance. The free festival operates both days from 2 p.m. ~ 10 p.m.  The festival will be held within walking distance from the pool, and is open to all DoD/civilian ID card holders and local Japanese.  In August, the pool is an enticing offer to escape the heat.

No one goes home hungry from festivals in Okinawa and the Hansen Festival is no exception. (MCCS photo)

This free festival will have a variety of booths featuring cultural foods, games, Kiddie Land, giveaways, amusement rides and the live entertainment. The audience will enjoy five other live band performances covering genres from blues to hip-hop and about everything in between including belly dance, eisa and shishimai (lion dance). Along with some top-notch entertainment, there will also be an array of stage giveaways with amazing prizes.

There will be shuttles from designated parking areas to the festival. No pets, outside alcohol, bottles, backpacks or coolers allowed. Taxi and daiko services will be available.

Gpzilla is also present at the festival. (MCCS photo)

Hansen Festival is a free event open to all DoD ID card holders and Japanese citizens.
