Air Asia becomes Vanilla Air, expands to Naha-Narita route

AirAsia Japan airline President Tomonori Ishii announced Monday that the company is changing its name to Vanilla Air from Nov. 1st.

In addition to announcing the name change, Ishii also said the airline will start flights between Okinawa and Narita with one daily round trip from Dec. 20th, and by Mar. 15, 2014, it plans to add three more daily round-trips.

The additional flights will be midnight and early morning flights. The midnight flight will depart from Narita Airport at 10:10 p.m., and the early morning flights will take off from Naha at 5:40 am. Ticket prices are set to start from \7,500 one way, and will be available for booking online from Nov. 1st.

Ishii explained that, “Until now, landings at Narita airport have been limited to between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m. Expanding the allowed landing times will raise the net working rate of the aircraft, and may even mark the beginning of a new market.”
