Six marching bands to represent Okinawa in national contest
The 26th Marching in Okinawa 2013 contest was held at Okinawa Convention Center in Ginowan City, Nov. 4.
24 marching groups representing students from Okinawan primary and junior high schools participated in the contest. Seven groups from four categories were elected to continue to the national marching contest in Saitama Super Arena in Saitama Prefecture on Dec. 14th and 15th.
The marching bands chosen for the national contest were, Hamakawa Elementary School of Chatan, Ishigaki 2nd Junior High School from Ishigaki Island, Mashiki Junior High School from Ginowan, and Nishihara High School from Nishihara City. Yaeyama High School of Ishigaki Island was chosen to represent the prefecture in the color guard category, while the baton twirling group Golden Hearts Shining and the pon-pon group of Ueyama Junior High School, both from Naha City, also won tickets to the national contest.
