Chamber Orchestra “Io” to play “Dance, Tanz, Tango”
Chamber Orchestra “Io,” a resident associate of the Ryukyu Philharmonic Orchestra, is scheduled to present its third concert this year at Palette Kumoji Theater in Naha on Christmas Day.
As in the previous two concerts, Eisuke Fujino is conducting with Violinist Mika Miyara as a concertmaster. Chromatic Harmonica Player Sachito Higa, who in October won the 2nd place in the World Harmonica Festival in Germany, is the guest soloist.
The program consists of Joaquin Turina’s “La Oracio del Torero,” Aram Khachaturian’s “Dance of the Rose Maidens,” Bela Bartok’s “Romanian Folk Dances” and “Primavera porterña” by Astor Piazzolla. In addition, the program includes four classical tangos; “Tango Preparense,” “Oblivion,””Milonga del Angel” and “Libertango.”
The concert starts at 7 p.m. and tickets cost ¥3,000. Organizers say children under age seven should not attend.
The chamber orchestra’s next concert takes place Feb. 9, at Okinawa Convention Center, under the baton of George Tchitchinadze. The program consists of pieces by Giuseppe Verdi, Pietro Mascagni and Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov.
