Ishigaki Island named as 18th place in world to visit

American newspaper The New York Times published an article titled “The 52 places you must visit in 2014” in its Monday edition, naming Ishigaki Island on the 18th place on the list. In 2011, Okinawa Prefecture was listed as the 39th.

The publication also pointed out, “Being that this year the Japanese yen rate has fallen, it has become less expensive to travel to Japan than before.” Evaluating the island, the article went on to say, “Ishigaki Island has many unexplored places, beautiful beaches and coral reefs, and is a perfect location for sun-burnt surfers.” It also noted that, “With the opening of the New Ishigaki Airport, transportation is even more convenient and for example LLC Peach Aviations can fly you there at a cheap price.”

The number one on the list was Cape Town, South Africa, the 2nd Christchurch, New Zealand and 3rd North Coast, California.
