Two mini cars were crushed when a trailer became loose from a tractor and veered onto the opposing lane, Monday evening, on Route 330 in Zukeran, Kitanakagusuku, and crashed into two mini vehicles. Six persons from the mini cars were taken to a hospital.

According to Okinawa City Police, two people, a man and a woman were pronounced dead at the hospital. Two other people were reported unconscious, and in critical condition, of whom one, a 19-year-old woman, died today rising the death toll from the accident to three. Two others, a woman and an infant are reported critical but conscious.

Police say that the tractor-trailer was carrying a 20 to 25-meter-long bridge girder weighing 20 tons and was heading south. For some reason the trailer became detached from the tractor and veered onto the opposite lane and crashed into the two vehicles.

Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
