Okinawa proposes ¥723.9 billion budget for fiscal 2014

Okinawa Prefecture Government announced the final proposal of its fiscal 2014 budget, Tuesday. According to officials the total is ¥723.9 billion, a 3.6 percent increase from a year ago, and the highest ever.

The. Japan’s Central Government is expected to contribute most of the increase within its promised special Okinawa development budget. The proposal includes new projects such as the establishment of a large-scale conference hall and event facility for MICE, enhancement and development of Asia telecommunications, support for developing a firefighting control affair council, and projects to promote and preserve the Okinawan dialect. Also included are an extension of the monorail, enhancing aircraft and airport maintenance, construction of a new Karate institute.

The new budget will be finalized in a cabinet meeting in Tokyo today, and the Okinawa Prefectural Government will the approve it for implementation by the end of the month..
