Ganju Eki’s famous Bridge of Happiness.

Ganju Eki is one of the four Farmers’ Markets within Nanjo City. It offers vegetables of the season, local events information and helps visitors to plan a perfect trip in Nanjo City.

Ganju Eki doubles as a community center as is has kitchen facilities and a room for classes for various programs and exchanges among local residents. The Nanjo City Tourism Association maintain an office there, and a touch panel display that provides local information in five languages; Japanese, English, Mandarin Chinese, Cantonese and Korean. The information is divided into six categories; fun, shopping, lodging, sightseeing, healing spots and a list of recommended restaurants and cafés.

If you’re lucky you might also run into the real Nanjo City character called “Nanji.” Just ask the staff.

Besides produce, Ganju Eki sells souvenirs, and distributes info on Nanjo topics.

On the back yard of Ganju Eki, there is a small bridge-like wooden stand. This is the nationally famous “Bridge of Happiness.” From there, to the right one can see Kudaka Island, and to the left is Sefa Shrine. The bridge is on the middle. According to staff, this bridge has mysterious powers to grant wishes, which is why it has become so popular. Visitors will go up the stairs from the right, and once on the middle, they put their hands together as if praying, then bow to the right and then left, ask for a wish, and come down from the left side of the stairs. If you’re not sure how to do it, staff will be glad to show you, and some of them might have actually had their wish come true.

Ganju Eki is open every day 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., except Dec. 29^th through Jan. 3^rd.
