Global Village celebrates St. Patrick’s Day
Global Village in Futenma is ready to celebrate the luck of the Irish with Global Village with its annual St. Patrick’s Day Party on Saturday, two days before the actual date, in order for the community to fully participate.
The community is welcome, whether coming to celebrate heritage, learn about a new culture, or simply to have a good time in a multicultural setting. The party starts at 8 p.m. and lasts until 11 p.m. There will be authentic Irish dishes such as shepherd’s pie and colcannon potatoes. This alone is reason enough, organizers say, to come, as one is usually hard pressed to find mashed potatoes on Okinawa. One free alcoholic drink is included in the ticket price, and there will be an assortment of different Irish liquors from which to select, ranging from Guinness to Mojitos.
Nina, a local Irish Band, will also be returning for the third year in a row to help get everyone into the Celtic spirit. Participants are encouraged to bring their own instruments and join in with the band and or dance. Last year there was even an impromptu performance by Global Village’s belly dance instructor. She was aptly dressed with her green coin hip scarf.
If you are Irish and or just want to have a great time, Global Village invites you to help celebrate St. Patrick’s day with dance, music, food and fun in our multicultural setting. Just remember to wear something green. Advance tickets are ¥1,800 and at the door tickets are ¥2,000. Tickets are half price for ages under 12.
