Kougei no Mori handicraft center to be built in Tomigusuku

The Okinawa Prefectural Industrial Arts Development Investigation Office announced on Feb. 3rd that they have completed the plan to build a handicraft center called Kougei no Mori in Tomigusuku.

Kougei no Mori is planned to house facilities to produce Okinawa’s traditional crafts and products such as lacquer ware, pottery and Okinawa textile fabrics. It will also be a place to promote and industrialize Okinawan traditional crafts, and function as a circulation base for them. It will be constructed within the Tomigusuku Castle Ruins Park.

Okinawa governor Hirokazu Nakaima will give the final approval to start the project within this month. After that, the construction will begin within this year and be completed by 2017.
