The monument is 14.5 meters long, and stands on the Saion Square in Asato, Naha City as a symbol of the Okinawan festival culture.
A ceremony to unveil the monument was held Tuesday. A group of nursery school children was present at the ceremony. 5-year-old Rukato Koya was excited and declared, “This boat is so cool!”
The yellow dragon boat monument is made of concrete, and is 2.12 meters wide and weighs about 2.5 tons. People can climb into the boat, sit on its benches and imagine ocean breeze on their faces.
