A fire broke out in a guesthouse located at Ishigaki’s largest shopping center, Euglena Mall, about 9:30 a.m., Apr. 15.

Firefighters managed to put out the fire in about an hour, but the the wooden 180-square meter guesthouse burned down completely.

The 68-year-old owner/manager of the guesthouse was taken to a hospital for smoke inhalation after the fire, but his condition is not life-threatening. None of the three guests staying in the facility was harmed.

Ishigaki Police and Fire Department are investigating the cause of the fire.
