Drastic drop in supply of goya, cucumbers and okra

Due to damage from Typhoon Neoguri, Okinawa’s summer vegetables are running on short supply and prices are going through the roof.

At the central vegetable wholesale market in Urasoe, the mount of incoming goya was about five tons that is only one-fifth of the average volume this time of the year. At the same time, its price per kilogram shot up to twice the normal to ¥500.

Officials at the wholesale market expect the price to normalize within three weeks to a month once the supply recovers.
