High tech and fun mix at Unna Festival

Kids have their share of fun in the Unna Festival wading pool grabbing fish and fruit.

A space and astronomy exhibition, as well as a special science and technology corner where visitors can try on a spacesuit, are just two of the events coming up Saturday and Sunday at the Unna Festival in Onna Village.

The whole community takes part in the annual Unna Festival Saturday and Sunday.

Admission is free for the two-day event, which takes place at several venues including Umihama Park Map: https://goo.gl/maps/jHY2S, where that spacesuit is on display, and visitors can suit up and have their pictures taken.

The Community Center hosts the Science and Technology corner, and also an elementary school arts exhibition showing students’ works.  The park is also the setting for a beach water pistol tournament on the 19th from 9 a.m. ~ 1 p.m.

The Unna Festival opens at 9 a.m. Saturday and runs to 9:15 p.m.  Sunday the festival gets under way at 10 a.m. and runs to 9:15 pm.  On both days there will be fish and fruit grabbing, and on Sunday astronaut Soichi Noguchi will meet with the public and give a talk at 1:45 p.m.

Fireworks mark the end of the festival events on both days.

On the special established stage there will be performances from local villagers, SS Company, Tink Tink, and also performances from youth groups from Yomitan Village and Okinawa City. On Sunday there will be a raffle from 5:45 ~ 6:05 p.m. Both days will end with fireworks.

A popular annual festival in Onna Village, the Unna Festival also has eisa performances, live music and fireworks. In addition, the festival will also offer the opportunity to experience a glass-bottom boat tour for a very reasonable price. The exhibition and the special corner are managed by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) in Onna Village.
