JASDF cargo aircraft transport Miyako mango

The Ministry of Defense received a request on Jul. 10th from Okinawa Prefecture officials to transport a cargo of mangoes from Miyako Island as normal flights had not yet been resumed after typhoon Neoguri.

The JASDF sent four transport aircraft to carry a total of six tons of mangoes from Miyako to Naha, lest the fruit would go bad. This marked the first time for Okinawa Prefecture to ask JASDF for help to carry cargo.

The Miyako mango harvest is in its peak during the month of July, when 25 tons of mangoes are harvested every day, but the typhoon caused the cancellation of all flights and ferries.
