The old center of Naha City around Kokusai Street is going to get a new shot in the arm with the redevelopment of the Makishi area.

Two new landmark buildings will be constructed on the land at the corner of Kokusai Street and Okiei Street in front of Don Quijote Naha. The buildings will be 20-floor high. One of them will house restaurants and retail shops on its first four or five floors and a hotel on top of them, and the other is a hotel entirely. The demolition of the old buildings on the land is scheduled to start shortly, and the construction should be finished by 2018.
