Satellite, SNS to be used to provide tourism information

Kumejima is scheduled to begin a special verification program from November called “Okinawa’s remote island G space city construction project.” It’s a new program to promote tourism by combining high-precision geographic information from a satellite and a social network service (SNS).

Information on the Kumejima firefly, which is one of Okinawa’s designated natural treasures, sea turtles laying eggs, and little-known fishing spots and other such data will be collected in a data base, and given precise location and directions with the help of the satellite. The information will be then made available to view by smartphone users.
