Higashi Village festival keeps nature close

Higashi youth shows their best moves at Eisa.

More modern moves are performed on stage.

Although best known for its spring Azalea Festival and as the hometown of professional golfer Ai Miyazato, Higashi Village is also proud of its summer festival taking place this Saturday.

The 37th Higashi Village Festival kicks off with a series of nature workshops at Fukuchi Dam at 10 a.m., and runs through the day with stage events, a Japanese folk song show, Eisa, clown performances, a Children’s Summer Nature Workshop, a canoe experience, play on the river, and traditional fireworks to cap the day.  The Kids Eisa Show starts at 5:30 p.m. at Azalea Eco Park in Higashi Village, and the Clown Kotora performance is at 6:30 p.m.
