Sumiko Yoseyama to star at ‘Jazz in Nanjo’
Jazz in Nanjo is the one of the representative music events in Okinawa and Sunday night the curtain goes up on the 9th iteration of the popular musical evening.
Popular, famous, special jazz musicians will gather together from across Okinawa and overseas for the evening at the Nanjo Cultural Center’s Sugar Hall in Nanjo City, 307 Aza Sashiki, Sashiki.
Headlining is Sumiko Yoseyama, who has been leading Okinawan jazz for over 50 years. She is the pride of Okinawa, and also acclaimed by critics and public figures outside Okinawa.
The Hidefumi Kamura Quartet will also perform, and overseas guests from Holland, for the second time, Rik Mol Group will play. They gave a performance at ‘Tokyo Jazz’, which is the biggest jazz festival in Asia, as a representative for Holland. From Nanjo City, a local singer, Eriko Shikina, will perform.
A food counter will provide some snacks, beverages and alcohol, and visitors can enjoy jazz with a dinner. The event site, Sugar Hall, is twenty years old this year. Sugar Hall is preparing discount tickets in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the hall. Advance tickets will be discounted to ¥2,000 from ¥2,500. High school and college students are ¥1,200, while tickets are ¥200 for children 6 ~ 15. Tickets are an additional ¥500 at door. A live welcome is scheduled when the doors open at 5:30 p.m. The show starts at 6:30 p.m.
