There’s only one single performance that takes place on Sunday, Oct. 12.

One of the most lucrative musical films in American cinema history, Footloose in 1984, is celebrating its 30^th anniversary with a musical rendition at the Okinawa Convention Center on October 12^th.

Footloose features plenty of well-honed dance numbers.

Needless to say, ‘Footloose’ and was also a big hit in Japan, after grossing more than $20 million in four days at the U.S. box office. In 1998, Footloose became a Broadway musical based on the movie, and hit the high attendance record of more than one million people. Also in Japan, there was a big hit of not only the movie but also the soundtrack.  A lot of songs from the movie were used in national popular TV dramas at that time.   The theme song ‘Footloose’ of course, Hero and Almost Paradise and so on, where heard repeatedly across Japan.

Although the lyrics are in Japanese, the melodies and moves are the same as the original.

The musical at Okinawa Convention Center commemorates the 30^th anniversary of the birth of Footloose the movie, and is played by Japanese actors. The lead actor as Ren is Go Ueki, a main vocalist of PaniCrew, a Japanese dance performance group and a charismatic person in a street dance field.  As a heroine, Mai Hoshino plays Ariel.  Hoshino has a reputation of high acting and singing skills.  Naomi Kawashima and Ken Teraizumi, well-known actors in Japan, bring excitement to the show.

The single performance is Sunday, October 12^th.  Doors at the Okinawa Convention Center open at 1:30 p.m. for the 2 p.m. concert.  S-seat advance tickets are ¥6,800 or ¥7,300 at the door.  A-seat advance tickets are ¥5,500 or ¥6,000 at the door.  Preschool age and younger children will not be admitted to the venue.
