Yoshimoto mulling launching entertainer school in Ginowan

The largest and oldest entertainment management agency in Japan, Yoshimoto Kogyo Co., is considering setting up a training school in Ginowan, to train comedians, entertainers and back stage professionals.

Yoshimoto Kogyo is known for organizing the annual Okinawa Movie Festival, which has been held at the Okinawa Convention Center and Tropical Beach in Ginowan and Sakurazaka Theater in Naha since 2009. The theme of the comedy, drama and documentary-oriented festival that is modeled after the international film festival in Cannes, France, is “Peace and Laugh!” Currently, Yoshimoto is preparing to launch a theater in Naha in the former Mitsukoshi department store building.

According to Yoshimoto officials the project to establish the school is expected to cost between ¥4 to ¥7 billion. The plans call for training not just comedians and other entertainers but also sound and visual technicians. The envisioned facility would be completed around 2020.
