Kitanakagusuku Festival features sumo, music

Sunday evening is dedicated to music performaces by local bands.

The 29th Kitanakagusuku Festival kicks off Saturday with traditional performing arts and a folk song show by local people of Kitanakagusuku Village, tosses in an Okinawa Sumo competition by elementary and junior high school students, and expands its focus on Sunday.

The second day of the two-day festival, Sunday, features a number of music performances. Admission is free to the festival, which runs both weekend days from 2 p.m. ~ 9 p.m. at Shiosai Park, 2070-16 Atta, Kitanakagusuku Village

Okinawaa Sumo with elementary and junior high school students takes place at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, followed by classical traditional art by the Kitanakagusuku Cultural Association at 5 p.m..  A folk song show goes on stage at 8:40 p.m., and the festival climaxes with fireworks at 9 p.m.

The brass band club of Kitanakagusuku Junior High School will do the opening act at 2 p.m. Sunday, followed by the hero show of ‘Tokkyujya’  at 2:35 pm. and a Tahitian dance show at 4:20 p.m.  In the evening, music performances by local bands including Lagoon Blue, RYUKYU IDOL and Pira Para are scheduled beginning at 6 p.m.  Fireworks close the festival at 9 p.m. Local specialty goods and food corners will be prepared for the festival.
