Christmas Music Hanabi Festival is ‘Okinawa first’

More than 10,000 fireworks are shot accompanied by Christmas music at the fireworks festival designed by fashion designer Junko Koshino.

The X’mas Music Hanabi Festival in Okinawa is being introduced on Saturday, Dec. 20, a brand new event for the island.

A part of an annual Ryukyu Kaiensai fireworks event that usually takes place in spring, this is the first fireworks spectacular customized and specializing in Christmas.  Visitors will enjoy more than 10,000 fireworks with many Christmas songs.  As with the spring Kaiensai event, world famous fashion designer Junko Koshino crated the show, including a giant Christmas tree shaped fireworks that is the highlight of the performance.

The Christmas Hanabi Festival takes place at Tropical Beach in Ginowan City, with gates open at 3:30 p.m. for the 6:30 p.m. music start.  Organizers say the event will be postponed to Sunday if there’s wild, windy weather over the island which would make launching of fireworks difficult.

Tickets are available in advance with a number of seating plans designed for different budgets. Advance tickets are sold at FamilyMart ‘e-plus’ or on the official website http://www.ryukyu-kaiensai.com/en/ in English.  Top of the line seating, a table for eight, is ¥86,400, or ¥91,200 at the gate.  Tickets to the free zone, on the opposite end of the price scale, are ¥2,700 for an adult advance ticket, or ¥1,600 for children.  Tickets at the gate cost an additional ¥600.  As prices vary with the number of people and select seating areas, details are available, in English, on the website.
