Call center closing has employees in uproar
Call center ‘Recycle Call’ in Ginowan City, has caused uproar among its employees after it terminated all of its workers and closed the office. The company headquarters is located in Tokyo.
According to a workers’ union representing the workers, the company gave the workers a dismissal notice at the end of the year, and finally closed the office and fired its whole staff as scheduled on Jan. 20.
Employees claim that the company management, including the previous president, has repeatedly unilaterally repeatedly changed conditions of the employment. Last September 96 people were working in the call center. However, three months later the number of workers was cut sharply to about one third of previous.
According to persons familiar with Recycle Call, the company set up the Ginowan office in 2012, and has utilized the government job-placement office called ‘Hello Work’ service since it started, and most of the workers were hired though the Hello Work.
Currently, the labor union is considering filing a law suit against the company.
