Okinawans lucky in nationwide Year-end Jumbo Lottery
Half a dozen people on Okinawa had a very happy New Year, indeed. According to national lottery officials, no less than six winning tickets were sold on the island for the ‘Year-End Jumbo’ lottery that is one of the most popular lotteries in Japan.
All winning tickets were sold at the lottery counter in San-A Naha Main Place department store in Omoromachi, Naha. The largest win on Okinawa netted the lucky buyer ¥500 million or a little over $4 million. Altogether six tickets winning more than ¥100 million each were sold from the same counter.
Most of the tickets in the nationwide lottery are sold at the counters in Tokyo and Osaka. This time Osaka counters also sold six winning tickets worth more than ¥100 million each. That means the same number of the winning tickets as Okinawa even though they sold many more tickets.
