Third generation Okinawan takes reins of IBM Japan

A 57-year-old third generation Okinawan-American Paul Yonamine has been named the CEO of IBM Japan, according to a Jan. 6 announcement by the company. The former CEO Martin Jetter assumed the post of the chairman of the company.

Yonamine is the son of Kaname Yonamine, a second-generation Okinawan-American and a former professional baseball player who played as an outfielder for Yomiuri Giants and Chunichi Dragons.  His grandfather moved to Hawaii from from Nakagusuku Village.

IBM Japan, headquartered in Tokyo, reported sales of ¥880.465 billion in its last fiscal year, and operates three call centers on Okinawa.
