Vandals damage cars in Okinawa City
A driver returning to his parked car on a city road in Akamichi, Okinawa City, around midnight on Jan. 9, discovered that someone had ripped off the outside mirrors and windshield wipers of his car. He also noticed that the same had been done to other cars that were parked nearby, and called the police.
A total of seven cars were damaged. Okinawa Police is investigating the incident as an intentional criminal damage to private property. According to police, a similar case occurred around the same location about a year ago.
Investigators concluded that the vehicles were damaged between 5 p.m. on Jan. 8th and 0:30 a.m. on the 9th. Wipers, outside mirrors and number plates of cars parked on the street were damaged or wrested away on purpose by someone.
The street is very quiet with few people walking so there are no eyewitnesses. Police are continuing to check the footage from area security cameras and interviewing local residents for clues.
