11, 427 took challenge of Okinawa Marathon

11,427 runners started the 23rd Okinawa Marathon Sunday in a beautiful sunny weather, while 3,008 entered the concurrent 10km road race.

72.6 percent or 8,292 of those who started completed the full marathon course within the time limit of 6 hours and 15 minutes. In the 10km race, 2,516 people made it through the finish line.

30-year-old Takahiko Onishi from Kyoto was the winner of the men’s full marathon in 2 hours 25 minutes 19 seconds. In women’s category, 26-year-old Chika Nakama from Miyako Island took the first prize with her time of 2 hours 40 minutes 34 seconds. It was the first victory for both.
