International festival features foods, music

Performers from all over the world.

The 25th Okinawa City International Exchange Festival is set to entertain this weekend at the Ichibangai Shopping Mall area in Okinawa City.

The festival is a good chance to experience different cultures and customs.

Admission is free for the International Exchange Festival, which opens with ceremonies at noon Saturday, and runs to 6 p.m. On Sunday the festival gets under way at 1 p.m. and runs until evening. Yui Sakihama and Juan Carlos Lugo will act as masters of ceremonies for the festival.

Food stalls will operate both Saturday and Sunday noon to 9 p.m.  Food tasting and meals from Peruvian, Indian, Ghanaian, Bangladeshi, Chinese, Italian, Hawaiian and Thai restaurants are showcasing their culinary arts.

Entertainment stages will run both Saturday and Sunday from 1 p.m. ~ 6 p.m.  On Saturday, performances include Yui Sakihama, Ghanan talking drum performance by Osman Orlando Bingle, Hula Show, Ryukyu folk song show, Chinese Niko (Erhu) performance, Philippines bamboo dance, and carioca live.

On Sunday, look for Mayo Ganeko music live, belly dance show by Isis Oriental Dance Academy, Yagi’s violin rendition, Latin rap by Los Lequios, Chinese martial arts, Ryukyu Karate show, and a flamenco performance.

In addition to the stage performances, five acoustic music shows will take place each day at Palmyra Street.
