Norovirus causes Ginowan pub ordered to close five days

Prefecture health officials ordered an izakaya, a Japanese style pub, in Ginowan to close for five days after six of its customers fell ill because of food poisoning.

The Community Health Division of the Prefectural Government announced on Feb. 13th that six men and women in their 20s to 40s who had been eating at Izakaya Ouka in Ginowan City on Jan. 31st had developed food poisoning caused by norovirus. None of them needed to stay in a hospital, and all are recovering.

The Chubu Regional Public Health Center ordered the restaurant to close down for five days from Feb. 13th.

According health officials, six people out of 16 who patronized the store on Jan. 31st complained of stomachache, diarrhea and a bout of vomiting. Subsequently, infection by norovirus was confirmed to have caused their symptoms.  The exact source of the virus has not been identified yet.
